Rooted in the philosophy of Osteopathy, at Balance we aim to restore health and vitality within the entire body. Once imbalances within the body are uncovered, manual non-invasive techniques can be used to treat to the root cause of the problem. With the whole body as the focus of treatment, osteopathic therapy aims to eliminate restrictions and create the ideal environment for the body to self-regulate and to heal.

Manual therapy

Using a gentle hands-on approach, at Balance we identify, assess and treat imbalances within the body’s structures. Non-invasive manual techniques are then applied to release constrictions within the musculoskeletal, digestive, neurological, hormonal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems of the body. Precise palpations realign the body’s systems to relieve pain, enhance mobility and create an optimum environment for the body to heal. Understanding that the body functions as one unit, our practitioners aim to treat the underlying source of the problem and not just specific symptoms. At Balance, we believe that long-term wellness is achieved when you asses and treat the body as an integrated whole. It is when all the elements of an individual are in balance that a person is in complete health.

Achieving Overall Wellness

At Balance our aim is treatment of the body as a whole to help you establish holistic wellness in your daily life. If one part of the body is restricted or compressed, other areas will innately compensate for the imbalance. These imbalances negatively impact your overall health and can cause you to experience stiffness, inflammation, pain and other health conditions. Through precise palpation, the areas of restriction can be released in order to re-establish balance and regain normal functions of the body systems and structures. Restoring balance creates the optimum environment for the body to self-regulate and to heal itself. In our approach to healing, we also carefully consider emotional and psychological components that play a major role in your overall health. Through consideration of the body as a whole, at Balance we emphasize the importance of establishing harmony within the body, mind and spirit as the foundation for overall wellness.

Techniques:

Myofascial and Visceral Release

These techniques help release restrictions within the body and restore mobility within the muscles, organs and fascia. All of our muscles and organs are surrounded by fascial tissue. Restrictions of the fascial tissues can, therefore, restrict movement and function of these organs and muscles. At the same time, tensions or restrictions within the organs or muscles can cause tensions in the surrounding fascial tissues. Treatment includes gentle compression, mobilization, elongation and balancing of the soft tissues.

Joint Mobilization

These techniques aim to return joints to their natural position through mobilization of the joint and surrounding soft tissue. By gently manipulating the joint, restrictions, joint strain and pain can be reduced. This will help to restore optimal range of motion and function back to the joints.

Cranial-Sacral Therapy

These techniques release compression within or between the bones of the cranium, spinal cord and sacrum as well as the surrounding tissues in order to release stress, pain and discomfort. Through gentle manipulation, restrictions in the cranial-sacral system can be released, improving the function of the central nervous system and enhancing the body’s innate ability to heal itself.

Athletic therapy

Certified athletic therapists focus on assessment and treatment of acute injuries suffered during activity or on the field of play. Athletic Therapists assess and treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions using manual therapy techniques, modalities and exercise prescription with the goal being to return the injured individual back to their regular activities. Once an individual returns to activity bracing and taping techniques may also be utilized to prevent further injury.

Massage therapy

Massage therapy aims to alleviate discomfort from everyday stresses, muscular overuse and chronic pain conditions in order to restore optimum function and overall health within the body. Treatment consists of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissue of the body, including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Through this treatment, individuals can notice the benefits of decreased stress and anxiety, improved posture and breathing mechanics, and overall improvements in sleep and relaxation. In addition, resultant increases in circulation of blood and lymph will assist the body with tissue nourishment, injury recovery and detoxification. With the knowledge to accurately assess and treat a wide variety of conditions, massage therapy is an effective approach restore pain-free function and create an optimum environment for the body to heal.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists help individuals who have been affected by injury, disease or disability to maximize mobility and function within their body. Utilizing their knowledge to discover and treat the underlying cause of the problem, physiotherapists assess movement, joint mobility, strength, tissue tension and neurological function. Treatment often includes joint mobilizations, myofascial releases as well as exercise programs to strengthen muscles and return optimum function to the affected areas.
